Pines
In this series of paintings, David Rycroft introduces bold calligraphic tree-forms counterpointing the open landscape beyond. These are, naturally, inspired by Oriental brush and ink paintings of masters such as Bada Shanren (ca. 1626—1705) and Tensho Shubun (ca. 1380–1450). But they also draw on the European classical landscape tradition from Poussin to Cézanne.
